Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple

Pune is home to the famous Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Hindu god of wisdom and prosperity. The temple was established in the late 19th century by Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai, a renowned sweetmaker, after the loss of his only son. Seeking peace and divine blessings, he installed an idol of Lord Ganesha, and over time the place became a major center of devotion and faith.

The temple holds great importance in Maharashtra’s cultural and religious life, especially during the Ganeshotsav festival. It is believed that sincere prayers offered here fulfill devotees’ wishes, which is why Lord Ganesha is lovingly known as Navasacha Ganpati. The temple gained further prominence during India’s freedom movement when Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak encouraged public Ganesh celebrations, making it a symbol of unity and devotion.

Today, Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple is one of Pune’s most visited pilgrimage sites. The beautifully adorned idol of Lord Ganesha and the temple’s spiritual atmosphere attract devotees throughout the year.
